At FDG, we believe in taking a holistic approach to designing communities for 55+ and beyond. This means addressing questions of accessibility and mobility as well as designing environments that support health, mind, and well-being. FDG has been at the forefront of incorporating universal design concepts within our communities for decades, allowing residents to age well within their own home and community.
Building on both our senior living and multifamily interior architecture and design expertise, FDG can maximize amenities spaces with effective, flexible use strategies. Our projects are designed around the active senior lifestyle, and residents inform much of the programs and amenities. Common amenities include co-working spaces, a dog run and park, a pet spa, activity centers and club rooms, fitness centers and yoga studios, a demonstration chef’s kitchen, catering kitchens, and theaters. Outdoor spaces include rooftop terraces and pool decks, kitchen and grill areas, pickle ball and bocce ball courts, and additional lounge areas with a variety of seating options.

Similar to multifamily communities, active adult communities may rely on the surrounding neighborhood services for amenities and may use that square footage for additional leasable space. FDG spends considerable time in the conceptual design phase studying the community for cultural cues, area competition and area services to determine differentiating factors for design. We believe the active adult and independent living residents still want to be socially engaged with their communities, frequenting their favorite restaurants and entertainment venues while creating valued connections with fellow residents. Our designs intend to create a backdrop for seniors to continue their life stories as an active, healthy, and contributing population.
