These immersive experiences not only enrich our team's knowledge but also empower us to offer our clients a diverse understanding of premium materials. Italian Odyssey: A Tale of Tiles and Innovation
Project Managers, Myles Sampey and Mary Pat Haines, embarked on a fascinating journey through the picturesque landscapes of Italy. The primary focus? Exploring the intricate world of tiles. Concept Surfaces, one of our valued supplier partners, has established strong ties with Italian showrooms and distributors, allowing us valuable insights into the tile manufacturing process.
Visiting 6 to 7 showrooms, Myles and Mary Pat witnessed the craftsmanship involved in creating the many of the tiles we bring to our clients. From graphic designers fine-tuning patterns to large automated machines seamlessly producing sheets of tile, the journey from powder to the final product was a mesmerizing spectacle. One notable visit was to Panaria Group a multinational Italian group and worldwide leader in the production and distribution of ceramic tiles for floors and walls. Their facility in Sassuolo, Italy is a colossal monument exemplifying the epitome of automation. The automated machinery runs without pause 24 hours a day and has full time oversight.
The unique geology of the region makes Italy a hotspot for tile production. The prevalence of the porcelain-rich sand used in tile manufacturing creates an ideal environment. As our team traversed different cities, they not only gained invaluable knowledge about tiles but also absorbed the rich architectural and historical tapestry of Italy.
Splendor in Spain: Unveiling the Art of Solid Surfaces
Senior Project Manager, Katy McKee's expedition to Spain was a rendezvous with Cosentino, a manufacturer known for its cutting-edge tile, stone, and solid surface products. Katy delved into the manufacturing process, which starts as powder and leads to the extraction of natural stone from quarries.
Despite stringent photo restrictions, Katy's experience was enlightening. She visited quarries, gaining a firsthand understanding of how natural stone is mined. The trip to the manufacturing plant provided insights into the meticulous process that transforms raw materials into the sophisticated products we showcase to our clients.
For Katy, this journey was not just a visual treat; it was a professional asset. The knowledge gained helps guide our team in selecting and presenting these products to our clients effectively. Faulkner Design Group, being deeply involved in the day-to-day design process, values the continuous learning that directly benefits our clients.
The commitment to sustainability impressed Katy. In a region with scarce water resources, every drop is collected rainwater, showcasing a dedication to environmental responsibility. The trip also highlighted the familial bonds within the company and its positive impact on the local community.
Turkish Expedition: Weaving Stories with Rugs
Founder and Chief Creative Officer Adrienne Faulkner's tour of a rug vendor in Turkey, specifically Cappadocia, unveiled the artistry behind handmade rugs. Adrienne's appreciation for the quality of the weave and the dedication of the artisans who hand-knot these rugs was profound.
Adrienne emphasized the importance of understanding the manufacturing process. From touring ceramic plants in Vietnam to exploring the glass workshops in Murano outside Venice, Faulkner Design Group invests time and effort to comprehend the craftsmanship behind every piece.
These journeys abroad underscore Faulkner Design Group's commitment to being stewards of quality and sustainability. Our dedication to understanding what makes quality materials not only enhances the longevity of our designs but also aligns with our ethos of creating timeless and sustainable spaces.
In an era of mass production, Faulkner Design Group stands firm in the belief that quality materials and craftsmanship are the cornerstones of enduring design. Each showroom visit, each factory tour, reinforces our commitment to delivering the best to our clients while fostering a global and historical perspective on design excellence.
