Easter Basket Drive for Community Partners of Dallas
Over the past few weeks our team has created Easter Baskets and helped distribute them through Community Partners of Dallas, a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 to support the work of Child Protective Services (CPS) in Dallas County. The organization provides for the immediate and urgent needs of children who are abused and neglected in Dallas County. The Easter Basket drive is part of their Childhood Experiences programming and contributes to positive, affirming childhood experiences, letting children experience joy and celebrate holidays, sometimes for the first time.
FDG set a goal of creating 20 baskets and ended up with 25 that we delivered to CPD on March 23. When assembling these baskets, our team reflected on our own childhood Easter experiences. Through our efforts, it was our hope that some deserving children would get those same moments that they could one day look back on. We were again thrilled when CPD came to us with the opportunity to help distribute these and many other baskets on March 28.
“Walking into that room and seeing the thousands of Easter baskets and realizing that each one represented an abused child in Dallas County helped put a lot a lot into perspective about how small my worries are compared to others,” said Stacy Peters. “I got so much out of that couple hours and have reached out to volunteer on my own in the future.”
“I didn’t know what to expect but when we walked in it looked like the easter egg emporium. I’ve never seen so many easter baskets,” exclaimed Sarah Dignan Bentinck. “And all the easter bunny ears on the Community Partner ladies, it just felt very festive. The fact that some of the case workers got there at 8 am for an event that let the first group in to select baskets at 9:45 am and that this was in addition to their normal workload showed how much they care about the kids they work with, they are definitely an underappreciated group of people.”
We are so thankful for what CPD and the case workers do for the children in Dallas County! To learn more about Community Partners and their initiatives please visit their website at www.cpdtx.org.
